Spring Pickin’s – Instagram Edition

By in Uncategorized

So Instagram recently came out for the Android platform and despite my misgivings about Instagram, I downloaded the app to try it out. I’m still not a huge fan of the overly processed, lomo-esque filters (though some filters, when applied correctly, do make an otherwise dull photo more vibrant and interesting), I’ll admit it is a nice way to merge social networking with the act of taking photos from your phone.

Donaville has put together a great recurring blog event called Spring Pickin’s at Dearest Nature, where you post evidence of spring happening your neck of the woods. Here’s some photos I’ve taken recently on my afternoon walks.

New Beginnings

Happy Spring

Happy Spring! It sure has been a long time since I’ve last posted, but I’m back and have some exciting new things to announce. My good high school friend Donaville (who also runs a gorgeous blog, Discover Paper) asked me recently to join her and a team of other lovely bloggers on a new project, Dearest Nature. What better way to launch a new nature-inspired magazine devoted to arts and lifestyle than on the first day of Spring? I’ll be posting on the Eat section regularly, so pop on over this Thursday to see my submission :)

We’re doing a giveaway so please stop by Dearest Nature and show us some love! Stay tuned for some new things here as well!

中秋節快樂 Happy Mid-Autumn Festival

For those who celebrate, 中秋節快樂! I hope you all are enjoying the full moon and reflecting on this year’s bounty. Here’s a sampling of the mooncakes that our family received this year:

Some mooncakes have a salted yolk in the middle to symbolize the full moon. I’ll be enjoying this one tonight. They’re so dense calorically, but well-made ones are so worth it. :) What are your favorite flavors?

[1], [2]: Dinner at Native Foods. [3]: Harvesting lemons from our backyard. [4]: Our little patch of sweet-potato leaves (delicious boiled and served with light soy sauce.) [5], [6]: House scenes.

Just a few shots from various weekends using my latest toy: Olympus [MJU:]-II; I was scrounging around in my grandparent’s house and examining my grandfather’s camera collection and found this little gem. It’s got a pretty sharp lens for a point and shoot and using it is kind of fiddly (you have to remember to turn off the flash everytime you open the lens cover and set the spot metering and focus), but once you get past its quirks, it’s quite fun to use. Expect to see more from this camera :)
